Climate change is the defining issue of our time and we are at a crossroad moment.

We already see the impact of global warming in severe heat waves, devastating wildfires, frequent hurricanes and the spread of diseases.

Every year we emit 50 gigatons of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. We need to reduce that number to zero (and actually below zero as we need to capture previous emissions).

The good news is that it is not too late to take action. To that end, we need massive investments in scaling existing solutions (such as renewable energy sources) as well as in new technologies (like grid-scale storage systems).

Startups developing such deep-tech solutions are our hope for success.

In autumn 2019, together with my partners we founded Extantia Capital.

Extantia is a platform for investing in breakthrough technology solutions that address climate crisis mitigation and adaptation.

We focus on companies that make a significant dent in reducing future and past carbon emissions. And since carbon has a price, we believe a company’s success is directly linked to its emissions reduction potential. Fixing the planet is GOOD BUSINESS!

The decarbonisation revolution is a much bigger business opportunity than the internet revolution, perhaps even 100x bigger. So imagine the Googles, Amazons, etc., we’ve seen— we’ll see more in climate tech.
